Effects of COVID-19 on the economy and its scope in Argentina and the region

Andrés Gallo, professor at the University of North Florida and the Universidad AustralHe stated that there is insufficient debate about the economic changes that will emerge after this crisis. Latin America will be profoundly impacted by the drop in commodity prices, but it can find opportunities in companies' new value chains and in innovation in technology-driven processes. "Before, we talked about technology, but today technology is generating major changes in companies," said the specialist, who joined more than 200 attendees from the US. "The labor system is becoming increasingly flexible and dynamic, and the labor market is beginning to be conceived differently."

COVID-19 in international financial markets: current impacts and future challenges

Carlos Patiño, based in the United States, reflected on the impact of COVID-19 on international financial markets. Patiño works at Nasdaq, a stock exchange that provides financial services. Regarding the current pandemic situation, Patiño stated that "technology allows for the creation of new markets and serves to support new market needs."
In the case of Nasdaq, without technology it would not have been possible to maintain its leadership in the stock market.
In turn, Marcelo Rossi, Director of the Master's Program in Finance at Austral RosarioIt raised new opportunities presented by the pandemic, such as the use of technologies we were previously familiar with but which have now become part of our work and our lives. This constitutes the “new normal.”

No data: recalculating the business

Gonzalo Zarza (Globant), a Big Data specialist, spoke with over 100 attendees at the latest Austral en Línea webinar, "No Data: Recalculating the Business." He discussed the importance and benefits of recording and analyzing business or company data.
Using real-world examples, he explained why a business must analyze data within an up-to-date context to avoid making the wrong decisions. He also emphasized the importance of anticipating the time and budget that will be invested in each case because the return on investment is often an estimate and uncertain.

COVID-19 and agribusiness: the new scenarios, risks and opportunities

Professor Marcoss Fava Neves of the University of São Paulo commented that in Brazil today there is no way out of the crisis and that the current situation regarding Mercosur is not being discussed.
For his part, Bernardo Piazzardi, professor at the Agribusiness Center of the Universidad AustralThe report presented some data from the latest Ag Barometer index for April. This index reflects that the trends among decision-makers in Argentina have accelerated due to the health crisis. Among the changes expected in the future are new regulations, processes, logistics, and consumption habits.
Marshall Martin, Professor of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University (USA), emphasized the importance of exports to the United States. In this regard, the other speakers agreed that trade trends show the world will continue its upward trajectory toward globalization.

The role of the accountant in socioeconomic recovery during COVID-19

Hernán Casinelli (General Director of CENYCA and Director of the IFRS Certification Program at Austral University) highlighted that the market is beginning to expand beyond Argentina: providing services from the comfort of one's home to clients who can be served remotely is now possible. "It's a good time to adapt and seek tools that will help us become fully 21st-century accountants," he stated.
For his part, Silvio Rizza (President of FACPCE) emphasized that intelligence and sound judgment are irreplaceable. He also stressed the importance of responsibility and collaboration among professionals in the fields of Economics and Public Accounting.
Carmen Verón (Director of the Accounting Department at Austral and Full Member of CENYCA) moderated the panel and spoke about the importance of teamwork in this post-pandemic scenario.

China, Argentina's top trading partner: challenges and strategies for business

Dr. Luciano Bolinaga and Ms. Alejandra Conconi discussed the arrival of the Chinese market in Latin America and strategies for negotiating with Chinese businesspeople or investors. They emphasized the importance of having a good interpreter who can communicate our ideas effectively and facilitate negotiations, regardless of language barriers.
They also pointed out several differences between the scale of consumers of Chinese and Argentine companies and how this also impacts management.
Bolinaga and Conconi are professors of the new online program at Austral, "Doing Business in China".
