INTRODUCTION

This is a clinically oriented residency in metabolic and hybrid imaging, designed to train physicians in integrating imaging with patient care. Graduates will acquire extensive knowledge in computed tomography and metabolic imaging.

Furthermore, it will allow you to get into radiometabolic therapy (Theragnosis), which is rapidly expanding worldwide.

The residence of Nuclear medicine The program at the Austral University Hospital begins in 2025 and is a first-level (basic) program, lasting 5 years:

1st year of medical clinic, 2nd in Diagnostic Imaging

The remaining students in Nuclear Medicine and clinical specialties complete the 3 years of clinical training required by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority to grant diagnostic and treatment permits.

Our goal in training doctors in this specialty is based on:

  • To train medical specialists in nuclear medicine with the ability to apply the scientific methodology to the various clinical, epidemiological and technical problems within their professional area, always based on evidence and the search for the good of the patient.
  • To produce empirical knowledge and systematic theoretical reflections that can be applied to diagnostic and treatment programs for the different pathologies studied and treated by the specialty.
  • To adapt and incorporate new knowledge that will allow you to work with the diagnostic and therapeutic methods available in this specialty, as well as to encourage participation in academic activities of national and/or international standing.

The Academic Health Center (CAS) is the merger of the Austral University Hospital and the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Universidad Austral, and has:

  • Infrastructure: The program includes classrooms, a library (with access to leading scientific journals), and dedicated training time. It also possesses the necessary equipment and instruments to perform various procedures, adequately and sufficiently meeting the needs of the program and the service.
  • EquipmentThe Nuclear Medicine service has 3 gamma cameras: one with CZT crystals dedicated to cardiology that performs coronary flow and reserve studies, one single-head camera for dynamic studies and pediatrics, and one double-head camera with added tomograph (SPECT-CT), a digital PET-CT and an uptake arm for thyroid uptake curves.
  • Human Resources: The medical staff has prior residency and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate university teaching and research activities. They also possess a strong academic and humanistic background and extensive experience in the treatment of complex diseases..
  • Clinical biomedical researchThe Nuclear Medicine Service conducts biomedical research with its own lines of inquiry, resulting in the publication of original articles in indexed national and international journals. The service also participates in international phase 3 multicenter studies. This activity contributes to the academic development of the specialty and, in turn, allows it to provide high-quality training to its resident physicians.
