General description

The specialization in General and Family Medicine is based on a comprehensive, continuous, and longitudinal approach to the health of individuals and their families. It promotes a broad view of the health-disease process, integrating biological, psychological, and social dimensions, and is based on a person-centered clinical care model.

The family physician primarily practices at the primary care level, where they play a fundamental role in community health. From this setting, they provide comprehensive care throughout the life cycle, supporting individuals and their families through different stages of life.

Their practice is geared towards responding to the health needs of the population through actions of health promotion, disease prevention, early diagnosis and initial management of the most prevalent health problems, coordinating with other levels of the health system when the complexity of the case requires it.
