The residence project in Hospital pharmacyIt arose as an initiative of the professionals of the Pharmacy Service of the Austral University Hospital, in the search for the need for greater academic training to develop in the hospital environment.

Currently, a pharmacy degree qualifies professionals to work in hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, and the pharmaceutical industry. To meet the needs of healthcare teams, hospital pharmacists need to pursue further academic development beyond the degree offered by various universities, enabling them to professionally address the needs of their direct internal clients: physicians, nurses, and patients.

The safety of our patients is the most important motivation for the development of capabilities and skills of pharmacists in hospitals. The clinically trained pharmacist is an essential member of today's healthcare teams. Their strengths in pharmacological knowledge, in terms of drug efficacy and safety, are crucial in all processes, from drug selection and usage monitoring to prescription validation.

We are an area dedicated to the comprehensive pharmacotherapeutic care of patients, whose objective is to promote the rational, effective, safe, and efficient use of medications and medical devices. We aspire to achieve excellence in all processes through the development of teaching and the promotion of multidisciplinary research, with special emphasis on the quality of our work and orienting all our efforts toward serving the patient and the institution.

It is expected that future professionals in Hospital Pharmacy will graduate from this residency program with a solid foundation based on the essential pillars of:

• Pharmacotherapeutic assistance: safety and efficacy
• Teaching and research
• Pharmaceutical management tools

REQUIREMENTS:

• University degree. Pharmacists graduating from Argentine and foreign universities with degrees validated in Argentina may enroll in the program.
• In addition to the duly certified degree, candidates will submit an academic transcript of the subjects of the corresponding degree and the degree average.
• Personal interview.

• Knowledge test.

Admission based on merit will consist of the average grade of the undergraduate degree + the score of the entrance exam + background of teaching assistantships and publications + the personal interview

The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

1st Year

During the first year of training, the student-resident will develop in basic activities of Hospital Pharmacy logistics and will acquire knowledge of processes:

• Basic knowledge of the service's activities in general and, in particular, of the process of acquiring, storing, preserving, dispensing, distributing and using medicines.
• Knowledge of management and administration, participation in activities related to the selection and information of medicines.
• Clinical activities specific to the pharmacist in the General Inpatient, Obstetrics and Emergency services.
• Master preparations.
• Participation in the Medical Clinic seminars.

2st Year

• Knowledge of antineoplastic therapies and knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary for the reconstitution, administration and control of antineoplastics.
• Assessment and monitoring of the patient's nutritional status.
• Pharmacotherapeutic monitoring of patients admitted to the unit dose dispensing system.
• Knowledge of techniques for pharmacotherapeutic monitoring and clinical pharmacokinetics.
• Clinical activities specific to the pharmacist in the services of Coronary Unit, Adult Intensive Care Unit, Adult Bone Marrow Transplant and Intermediate Therapy.
• Participation in the clinical case conferences of Medical Clinic, Therapy, Coronary Unit.

3st Year

• Knowledge about the work of a sterilization center, its management and applicability of concepts.
• He will perform clinical activities typical of a pharmacist in the Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatology services.
• Participation in the Infectious Diseases Committee: acquisition of knowledge in the use of antimicrobial drugs in the hospital.
• Participation in the clinical medicine and pediatrics seminars.
• External rotation: 3 months abroad or at another institution in the country (optional).
