Globally, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is steadily increasing. According to 2021 data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 540 million adults worldwide live with the disease, representing 10,5% of the population between 20 and 79 years of age. It is estimated that half of these individuals, approximately 240 million people, remain undiagnosed.
By 2045, IDF projections estimate that 1 in 8 adults, approximately 783 million, will be living with diabetes, representing a 46% increase.
Argentina is not immune to this global epidemic. According to data from the fourth National Survey of Risk Factors, the prevalence of diabetes in the adult population is 12,7%, representing an increase compared to previous assessments.
The American Heart Association states that people with diabetes mellitus (DM) are twice as likely to experience cardiovascular disease and stroke, which are the leading causes of disability and death in patients with type 2 DM. This complex condition, with its various subtypes, affects individuals of both sexes throughout their lifespan, requiring a multidisciplinary approach for proper management and follow-up. Recognizing the growing demand for care for patients with this condition, the Austral University Hospital established a specialized service in January 2012.
These data underscore the need to train professionals specializing in the prevention, early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of this disease, which currently constitutes a global epidemic. The Academic Health Center of the Universidad Austral The Master's program allows students to integrate academic training, with its excellent faculty, into the clinical practice carried out in the multidisciplinary approach to patients with this pathology in the service of its University Hospital.
Intended for doctors and health professionals whose activity is related to diabetes mellitus.

social dimension
To train graduates with a sense of ethics, critical judgment and scientific rigor, who are characterized by their commitment to the society of which they are a part, being able to make contributions that allow us to respond to the problems of diabetes mellitus.
Specific dimension
The Master in Diabetes Mellitus (DM) must:
To learn about the latest advances, encompassing research into the clinical, biochemical, and molecular aspects of DM.
To have knowledge of clinical epidemiology, genetic, epigenetic, immunological and pathophysiological bases that allow the student to make a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment of the different types of DM, impaired fasting glucose and carbohydrate intolerance.
To know and properly implement current therapeutic tools for DM and its comorbidities.
Having extensive knowledge related to the prevention of the disease and its complications, as well as a solid foundation for making the diagnosis and treatment of these.
To learn the main techniques aimed at diabetes education, a fundamental pillar of treatment.
To use critical thinking, clinical reasoning, evidence-based medicine, and scientific research methodology in the management and approach to the pathology.
Coming soon. To be confirmed.
The master's program is part of the mission of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and the Austral University Hospital, which aim to "project into society professionals with training from a center of teaching, medical care and research of high hierarchy."
It is a professional master's degree, since it is specifically linked to the strengthening and consolidation of skills specific to a profession or field of professional application, involving the areas of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and education of patients and the community, both in research and in medical practice.
Throughout the training process, students delve into skills linked to disciplinary or multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks that broaden and qualify their performance capabilities in the professional field.

Dear Postgraduate Participant, we would like to inform you of the latest updates regarding the tuition policies for our undergraduate and postgraduate programs:
Due to the complex economic situation in Argentina, the tuition fees for our programs and degrees are adjusted periodically. This is to preserve the academic quality that underpins our value proposition and to meet the University's commitments and obligations. These increases will be based on indicators reported by the Central Bank of Argentina.
Once again, we appreciate the trust you have placed in our University and renew our commitment to providing you with the highest level of training and professional development.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS:
How can I tell if my degree program has been accredited by CONEAU? For programs with ministerial accreditation, the resolution or file number and the corresponding accreditation year will be displayed at the top of the page. Programs without accreditation issue a certificate to participants, not a degree.
