CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MASTER'S DEGREE

The Master's program aligns with the mission of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and the Austral University Hospital, which aim to "project into society professionals trained from a top-tier center for teaching, medical care, and research." It is a Professional Master's DegreeThis is because it is specifically linked to strengthening and consolidating skills specific to a profession or field of professional application. Throughout the training process, skills are developed in depth in connection with disciplinary or multidisciplinary theoretical and practical frameworks that broaden and enhance performance capabilities in the professional field.

Clinical effectiveness Its goal is to support decision-making in all areas of healthcare, aiming to achieve the best clinical outcomes from these decisions and evaluate their impact on healthcare costs. The relationship between cost and effectiveness (efficiency) demands a deep methodological understanding that is relevant across all areas of healthcare. Currently, decision-making at any level—whether public health, hospital/institutional, or individual (caregiver/patient)—requires healthcare professionals to have robust methodological training in clinical effectiveness. Furthermore, the continuous advancement of new healthcare technologies demands that healthcare professionals (regardless of their profession, specialty, or level of care) have training in clinical epidemiology that enables them to conduct a judicious evaluation of these new technologies.

Methodological knowledge It will not only provide tools for improving clinical decision-making, but will also train professionals to conduct research in the health sciences, promoting greater and better professional development. Therefore, in parallel with the professional development generated by pursuing a master's degree focused on clinical effectiveness, the possibility of developing and conducting clinical research is inherent to this program. The development of clinical research will enhance professional development across the board, optimizing patient care and, on the other hand, developing opinion leaders. These opinion leaders will be experts in their fields, not only due to their clinical expertise, but also because of their robust methodological knowledge.

Healthcare professionals with an academic background, interested in teaching and research, and with leadership potential.

Doctors, nurses, technicians, biologists, psychologists and other health professionals interested in the topic.

A- To train health professionals with a focus on clinical effectiveness in the following aspects:

  1. To provide students with the tools to perform an analysis and critical judgment of the scientific literature of health-related careers, allowing them to have the best available scientific evidence, incorporating a critical vision in all areas of health, whether individual or community health.
  2. Promote sound decision-making in the health field, from healthcare to public health in general, supported by the best available scientific evidence.
  3. To train opinion leaders in specific areas of care in all health settings, based on clinical research methodology and methodological and analytical robustness.

B- To stimulate the comprehensive development of the researcher's career:

  1. To provide the tools to generate the right questions that facilitate and lead to a deeper understanding of the field of research.
  2. To train students so that they can identify the best and most feasible epidemiological design.
  3. To train students to perform and interpret simple and complex biostatistical analyses.
  4. To provide students with the tools to develop and create a research project.
  5. To encourage the application of this knowledge in daily professional life.

Value proposition for society:

In this context, the master's program will provide healthcare professionals with tools to search for, summarize, critically analyze, and apply information to decision-making in their respective settings (individual, institutional, and public health). It will also train them in the skills to generate new scientific information and compare and integrate it with existing knowledge. Graduates will be able to provide society with high-quality care and reliable information.

The generation of new knowledge and the correct interpretation of published results, and their applicability in cost-effective measures should be a priority in the training framework of educational institutions and training centers such as university hospitals.

The development of this Master's program will enrich society with qualified professionals at the local, national, and regional levels. Our country is at an opportune moment to strengthen regional clinical research networks, generating leading professionals, systematizing clinical practice, and contributing knowledge that enables more cost-effective decision-making.
