Requirements: Completed training in Gynecology-Obstetrics or Urology. Comprehension of written English.
Duration: 9 months (6 months of theoretical course, 3 months of clinical observer).
Documentation: After each module, including required readings, an exam will be administered that must be completed with a score of 80% or higher. At the end of the theoretical period, an exam will be administered that must be completed with a score of 80% or higher. After the two observer rotations, each host center will complete an evaluation of the student, including attendance at clinical activities, demonstration of interest, and clinical knowledge.
Certification: Certificate of compliance awarded by CALE and Universidad Austral.
This course is designed to expose the student to clinical knowledge in Urogynecology.
The course does NOT replace formal training in Urogynecology since it does not include surgical training or training in procedures necessary to practice as a Urogynecologist.
The typical student will be a physician who already practices as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist or Urologist and wishes to expand his or her knowledge in Urogynecology, but cannot take the time required to complete the formal curriculum in Urogynecology (2 years).
THEORETICAL PART
The first six months include the completion of nine modules representing comprehensive knowledge in urogynecology. The duration of each module varies depending on the material covered. The instructors covering the topics in each module will be recognized experts in that clinical area. Each module includes required readings selected by the instructors to complement the module material. Live teleconferences will be organized during each module to discuss the topics covered with the instructors. Attendance at these teleconferences is mandatory.
CLINICAL OBSERVATORY PART
Part of the rotations is as a clinical observer (certificate awarded by CALE-Urogine | 2 rotations of 6 weeks each). These rotations are designed to expose the student to clinical urogynecology at two recognized referral centers designated as Centers of Excellence. The two-center requirement aims to expose the student to various approaches to clinical issues and styles in urogynecological practice.
