CESIS | Center for Studies in Sustainability and Social Innovation

By connecting actors, organizations and systems, we are born with the desire to contribute an interdisciplinary perspective to 3 regional challenges:

1) poverty and inequality,

2) environmental degradation,

3) and institutional weakness,

based on research, teaching and transfer that result in organizational resilience and systemic transformation of Latin America.

The following are the activities carried out by the center.

Workspaces

CESIS aims to fulfill its mission through a program of generating and transferring highly relevant knowledge within the academic field, while also making a significant contribution to businesses, social entrepreneurs, third-sector organizations, and the public sector. To this end, they focus on research, training, and dissemination in five key areas:

1. Organizing and leading corporate sustainability

How do key decision-makers in Latin America position themselves regarding the debate on the economy, social prosperity, and the environment? How is the sustainable development goals agenda progressing in companies across the region?

2. Responsible innovation and circular economy

How can we foster innovations aimed at protecting, sustainably managing, and restoring natural or modified ecosystems that effectively address societal challenges, while also providing benefits for human well-being and biodiversity?

3. New organizational models

How are new business models developed and scaled to alleviate poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation in Latin America?

4. Integrated, sustainable and competitive districts

How are successful strategic planning processes for sustainable districts carried out? What role do emerging technologies play in advancing the sustainable development agenda at the district level?

5. Governance of global networks of value and common-pool resources

How can global value chains be managed sustainably? Under what circumstances can the governance of common resources (on a transnational scale) be successfully resolved in order to maximize social welfare?
