Hip Pathology and Reconstructive Surgery
Specific program objectives:
- Acquire knowledge of the pathogenesis and therapeutic modalities of hip diseases.
- Acquire the habit of interacting with the other disciplines involved in the diagnosis and treatment of hip diseases.
- Training in the presumptive and differential diagnosis of the various types of hip diseases.
- Training in the comparative analysis of various procedures to solve the same case, prioritizing the levels of evidence.
- Training in the recognition of specific instruments.
- Training in specialized planning.
- Training in the application of systems for measuring and evaluating results.
- Training in limb preservation techniques and functional restoration.
- Training in postoperative control and functional assessment of patients.
- Recognition of complications and sequelae (mechanical, biological and pharmacological) and training in their prevention, information and treatment.
- Preparation of papers on the subject to be presented in national and foreign peer-reviewed periodicals.
- Participation as a full member in the Argentine Congress of the Argentine Association for the Study of Hip and Knee and in the National Course of said association.
- Training in aspects related to primary hip replacement surgery with special focus on the indication of the different friction surfaces and current fixation methods.
- Training in aspects related to prosthetic hip revision surgery; focusing on the importance of managing all the various reconstructive techniques, and their specific application.
- Training in biological joint preservation techniques such as: femoroacetabular cheilectomies, etc.
- Training in data recording and organization as a primary tool for the ongoing monitoring of clinical and radiological results, and for the preparation of publishable scientific work.
- Training in preoperative planning of prosthetic surgery with different types of implants.
- To strongly encourage continuous medical updating in the specialty through regular reading of international reference journals and active participation in related national and international congresses.

Programmatic activities (Mandatory character):
of care: Consulting rooms, surgeries (schedule of days and times),
Obligations and responsibilities of the Intern:
- Mandatory presence in operating rooms and consulting rooms. When, for various reasons, a trainee is unable to attend a procedure, they will be responsible for finding a replacement.
- Supervision of the correct execution of the surgical risk assessment of all patients, respecting the timeframes to avoid surgery cancellations.
- Preoperative programming with copies of all cases without exception according to the standard.
- Arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled surgery time.
- Supervision of the correct acquisition of x-rays for their correct programming.
- Rounds and discharges with written instructions to patients.
- Correct writing of the medical history.
- WOMAC implementation with PECTRA according to standard.
- Surgical and outpatient services will be provided at the Favaloro Foundation.
Completion of the activities detailed above is an essential part of the activity as a fellow and will condition the possibility of surgical activity, courses, rotations and even the completion of a second year at the discretion of the program directors.
- Weekly activity chart at Austral Hospital, outpatient clinic and scheduled surgeries
- Programs: Academic activity represents a fundamental part of the continuous medical updating process that an expert surgeon in hip reconstructive surgery must follow throughout his career.
- Preparation for Clinical Case Conferences: This involves the presentation of 1) completed surgical cases, 2) discussion and planning of unresolved cases. Participation in the Book and Journal Club, and attendance at courses and conferences in the specialty.
- Teaching and public speaking: Preparation and presentation of classes, preparation and presentation of cases.
- Research: Publication and presentation of scientific papers at conferences and courses in the specialty.
Outdoor observation rotations:
The Service will promote and establish the necessary links for final supplementary training in a service with a recognized international track record.

The hip sector will not provide funding, except in situations where the resources and performance of the fellow warrant it.
Approval of the professional development program.
Exclusionary conditions for approval of the professional development scholarship and obtaining the degree:
- Completion of the entire training program, according to its duration.
- The approval of all programmatic activities having fulfilled the objectives proposed for each of them.
- Passing the program's final exam.
Each activity will be evaluated by the program directors who, according to the fulfillment of the objectives, will approve or disapprove the activity.
Final evaluation with a score using a scale of 1 to 10.
To pass the course, the scholarship recipient must obtain at least 4 points to receive the corresponding diploma..
