What's surprising is the surprise itself. As I've said in this column several times, the primaries have become a highly significant political event with consequences for the economy, the social climate, and political reactions. This was the case in 2019 and 2021. The closed circuit of candidates and campaign teams, political journalists, and pollsters is astonished, as they were publicly obsessed with the primaries and behind the scenes often worked for or against one candidate or another. The primary results are a critique of this entire self-referential world, which Javier Milei categorizes as "the establishment."
