On Thursday, May 29, the first meeting of Graduates for Southern Sustainability was held, an initiative promoted by the Directorate of Graduates and Professional Development together with the Sustainability Management, which seeks to bring together and empower graduates who are generating a positive impact from their professions.
This meeting marked the beginning of a network of graduates committed to sustainability , centered on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Throughout the year, members of this network will collaborate on designing new regulations, preparing sustainability reports, and developing proposals aimed at positively impacting society and the world.
“Together we can exert more force to change reality,” said Dr. María Verónica Torres Cerino, Sustainability Manager, who also emphasized the importance of building community and linking knowledge among graduates from different academic units.
The event featured an inspiring discussion moderated by Dr. Torres Cerino and María Manson, Director of Graduate Studies and Professional Development, with the participation of Catalina Deluchi, VP of Global Business Development at Agua Segura, and Francisco Galeazzi, Climate Storyteller, both graduates of the School of Communication. Drawing on their experiences, they invited reflection on the environmental and social challenges we face and the responsibility we have as professionals.
“There is already a world that is recognizing the water footprint: being responsible for how we use water and returning it sustainably,” Deluchi pointed out. For his part, Galeazzi emphasized: “If we don't understand people, we can't take care of the planet.” A dialogue then opened up so that each of the graduates could share their experiences, concerns, and expectations regarding sustainability.
The graduates' meeting for sustainability, which also included an integration and networking space, is aligned with two strategic axes of the Austral 2028 Plan: strengthening the link with graduates and the transversal development of sustainability in all areas of the University.
This was the first step. The Southern Sustainability Graduates Network will continue to grow with those who dream, think, and work for a fairer, more conscious, and collaborative future.
