Representatives from the National Scientific and Technical Research Council toured our Pilar Campus. In particular, they visited the facilities of the Translational Medicine Research Institute, which has existed since 2016 and has a dual affiliation: Universidad Austral and CONICET.
On Monday, April 29, Dr. Daniel Salamone, president of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), and Dr. Claudia Capurro, vice president of Scientific Affairs for the organization, toured the Pilar Campus. The officials were received by Dr. Marcelo Villar, president of the Board of Directors of the Technology Transfer Unit (UVT) of our University.
First, the CONICET representatives held a meeting with Rector Julián Rodríguez; the Vice-Rector of Research, Dr. Juan Bautista Etcheverry; the Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Guillermo Mazzolini; and the Director of Institutional Public Relations of the UA, Daniel Pelegrina.
They then moved to the Austral Business Park to visit three biotechnology companies: a pharmaceutical laboratory, Kheiron Biotech (a renowned cloning and regenerative medicine therapy company) and Argenomics (a biotechnology company dedicated to the search and detection of genetic markers applied to human health).
Later, they visited the FCB and the Institute of Translational Medicine Research (IIMT- CONICET-Universidad Austral), where they were received by the dean Dr. Guillermo Mazzolini; Dr. Juan Gallo, director of the IIMT; Dr. Pablo Brumovsky, deputy director of the IIMT, Dr. Florencia Coronel, secretary of Research of the FCB, and by Dr. Marcelo Villar, first Director of the IIMT, former rector of the University and former dean of the FCB.
There, various presentations were given on different IIMT research projects and ongoing startups, and participants discussed their challenges and growth objectives. They also held a meeting with IIMT researchers.
For their part, CONICET authorities detailed the current situation of the institution and its immediate prospects.
Finally, they toured the Austral University Hospital with the Medical Director, Dr. Fernando Iúdica.
