Obtaining a certification, beyond being a very valuable experience, means having third-party validation that confirms we’re on the right path. This allows us to solidify our position and provides a stepping stone from which to project new achievements in the same area.”

In relation to the collaborative work between institutions, added:

“For us, networking means learning, sharing, and recognizing ourselves as part of a group of universities that are moving forward on the same path of continuous improvement. The goal is to build a more climate-resilient, less polluting education system capable of offering a better future to our students and future professionals, training them with these values.”

MetaRed S Recognition Seals

The MetaRed S Recognition Seals are an international distinction designed to highlight and reward the commitment of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to sustainability and ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria.

This recognition aims to assess, standardize, and certify the level of maturity in sustainable management at universities. The process allows institutions to measure their impact, identify areas for improvement, and share best practices globally.

The initiative is part of the International Analysis Project on the Implementation of Sustainability Policies in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), a strategic study that seeks to analyze the actual progress of higher education in this area. The technical development, indicator design, and evaluation of applications are the responsibility of the MetaRed S.A. International Working Group (GTI) on Indicators.

The three levels of the Seal

To reflect the progress of each institution, the recognition is divided into three levels:

  • Seal of Commitment: It recognizes universities that have formally begun their journey, establishing initial policies, institutional declarations, and first sustainability committees.
  • Leadership Seal: It distinguishes those institutions that have structured action plans, allocated budgets, and active monitoring metrics.
  • Seal of Transformation: It is the highest recognition, awarded to higher education institutions that demonstrate a measurable impact, a cross-cutting culture of sustainability in teaching and research, and results aligned with the highest international standards.
