The initiative, which brings together universities from Argentina, Mexico and Chile, will apply explainable AI to anticipate dropout risks and propose personalized student support strategies.

La Universidad Austral will participate in an international project focused on reducing dropout rates in higher education through the use of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). The initiative was selected within the framework of the cooperation program of Hemisphere University Consortium (HUC), which promotes alliances between institutions in Latin America and North America.

Together with the University of Monterrey (Mexico) and the University of Development (Chile), the academic team will work on the development of predictive models that, based on the analysis of academic and social data, allow them to anticipate dropout situations and design personalized interventions that strengthen support for students.

The project seeks to make a concrete contribution to one of the most relevant challenges of the regional education system: improve student retention and academic progress in increasingly complex contexts.

“Artificial intelligence can be a key ally if it is integrated with a human and institutional perspective. This project aims to do just that: combine technology and academic knowledge to transform realities.”, the research team points out Universidad Austral.

The proposal is among the winners of the HUC Seed Grants 2024 funding program, and will begin its implementation in the second half of the year.
