Within the framework of its 2028 Strategic Plan, the Universidad Austral It brought together career directors and academic teams from all its units to advance a more flexible, innovative training proposal connected to current challenges.
On Thursday, July 10, the Pilar Campus hosted a workshop focused on redesigning the curriculum for the university's undergraduate and graduate programs. Program directors and academic leaders from all units participated, convened with the goal of moving towards a more flexible and innovative educational model, aligned with new ministerial guidelines and the upcoming implementation of the Argentine Academic Credit System (SACAU).
The activity was carried out within the framework of the 2028 Strategic Plan and the institutional strategy for innovation in curriculum design, promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Academic Affairs and led by Álvaro Barrachina. During the meeting, key concepts related to curriculum redesign were addressed, such as flexibility, global educational trends, and the need to propose updated educational pathways connected to current social and professional challenges, the result of a research process carried out by the project team.
“We live in times of rapid change, where it is difficult to predict with certainty what specific knowledge and skills graduates will need upon graduation. In this scenario, it is important to discern the core knowledge that will allow graduates to understand and adapt quickly to changes over time,” highlighted Lourdes Perea Muñoz, Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs.
He added: “Each profession must preserve its core identity: its particular way of looking at reality and contributing to the common good. The graduate profile we aspire to develop integrates these dimensions: solid knowledge, as well as competencies, skills, and ways of practicing the profession that reflect a deep understanding of its unique way of contributing to society in dialogue with other disciplines.”
The Vice-Rector also stressed that translating that profile into a concrete educational project "requires a profound articulation of all aspects of university life: a committed teaching staff, a demanding and personalized education, training spaces that transcend the classroom, opportunities for interdisciplinary dialogue and students as protagonists of their own educational process."
In this context, flexible curriculum design emerges as a strategic tool. As Perea Muñoz explained, it allows for combining fundamental and specialized training, incorporating elective options according to each student's interests, promoting interdisciplinary workspaces, and generating innovative learning experiences. This approach also fosters better articulation between undergraduate and graduate studies and strengthens ties with the professional environment.
This process is also framed within the adaptation to the national credit system (SACAU), an instance that represents an opportunity to review in depth the training trajectories and promote more meaningful learning experiences.
"From the Universidad Austral“We see the curriculum redesign as an opportunity to strengthen our educational model, adapting it to new realities without losing sight of our institutional identity. This process invites us to rethink our educational offerings from a more flexible, innovative perspective, situated within the global context, reaffirming our commitment to academic quality and the social impact of higher education,” highlighted Álvaro Barrachina, project leader and Director of Academic Planning and Processes.
“The working session with the program directors was a significant step in this direction, and their commitment and proactive attitude in taking on this challenge was especially encouraging,” concluded Lourdes Perea Muñoz, Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs.
This space is part of a progressive work that will continue in the coming months, based on the analysis of each career's educational proposal and the progress in the implementation of SACAU.
