Visa Requirements
Students from most countries can enter Argentina as tourists. Nevertheless, if you will stay longer than 90 days, you need to request a temporary visa. The visa is requested once in Argentina. The paperwork should be started within the first month of arrival.
Do I need a visa to enter Argentina?
Visa Procedure
Students staying for a semester or a year should get a visa at the Migrations Office (depending on your nationality – please check the link above).
The process should be started within 30 days.
1. Request a Background check (Certificado de antecedents penales)
The background check is issued by the Dirección Nacional del Registro Nacional de Reincidencias, an office that depends on the Ministry of Justice. To request it, you need to set a turn on the Web.
• Go to http://www.dnrec.jus.gov.ar/
• Click on “Reserve su turno por Internetâ€
• Select an office location: Piedras 115, Ciudad de Buenos Aires
• Pick the date and time when you want to attend
• Type in your name(s), surname, passport number, etc.
• Click on “Reservar turnoâ€
• Print off the web page, or write down the number under the bar code.
(This information is needed to identify your turn or cancel it if necessary.)
Go to the office you selected (see map below) on the date and time you chose.
Bring with you:
- Your passport
- Photocopies of the first two pages
- AR$ 40,00 or the fee aplicable to the time-frame you chose
- The turn number
Bear in mind that:
- You will be requested to fill out a form
- You fingertips will be filed
- The process may take longer than the usual 45 minutes
Go back to Reincidencias and pick the background check. Make sure that the information on it is correct.
2. Request a Constancia de Inscripción Electrónica
Go to Universidad Austral’s International Office and ask Mrs. Luz Biedma for a Constancia de Inscripción electrónica.
3. Request a Certificado de domicilio
You should request it at the police station closest to the place you live. To find out which one you should go to, enter http://www.buenosaires.gov.ar/areas/seguridad_justicia/seguridad_urbana/comisarias_bomberos/
The cost of the process is AR$ 15,00/20,00.
4. Migrations Office (Dirección Nacional de Migraciones)
Set a turn at the Migrations Office. For this purpose, you will need to log in to http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/
The day of the appointment, you must go to Migrations Office: Av. Antártida Argentina 1355
Students from Mercosur countries should request a Visa temporaria at the corresponding area. Students from non-Mercosur countries must look for the area called Departamento Gestión de Trámites NO MERCOSUR, and request a Visa Transitoria.
You must bring the following documents:
• Passport
• Certificado de antecedentes penales (background check)
• Two pictures (front, white background, 4 cm by 4 cm).
• AR$ 300,00 in cash.
• Certificado de domicilio
• Constancia de Inscripción electrónica
• Photocopies of all de aforementioned documents (all pages).
Pick up the Visa. You will need to go back to receive your Visa. Please, ask when you need to return.
